Kane scores twice on three-year anniversary of Sharks debut originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
On the three-year anniversary of his Sharks debut, Evander Kane wasted no time in celebrating.
Kane shot a rebound back into the net past St. Louis Blues’ goalie Jordan Binnington on the power play, giving the Sharks an early 2-1 lead in the first period.
The marker served as Kane’s 71st goal in a Sharks uniform, the most on the team since he debuted, but the 29-year-old was far from finished.
Kane broke away with 9:26 remaining in the second period and scored his second goal of the contest, making the score 4-3.
More notably though, Kane’s goal knocked Binnington out of the game, and the goalie wasn’t happy about it.
After being pulled from the contest, Binnington exchanged words with the Sharks’ bench, shoved Radim Simek, faked taking a shot at Erik Karlsson and came close to coming to blows with goalie Devan Dubnyk before leaving the ice. He was assessed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and did not return to the game.
Unfortunately for Kane and the Sharks, the winger’s two goals, along with Timo Meier’s two goals, would fall very short. San Jose and St. Louis combined for 13 total goals in the contest, with the Sharks ending up on the wrong side of the box score and losing 7-6.

Kane’s anniversary was soured in the loss, but he was especially perturbed by Binnington’s behavior. When asked how he felt about how the goalie, Kane said it simply.
“It’s too bad I wasn’t on the ice for that,” Kane said.
The Sharks’ tough loss to the Blues on Saturday was the second game of a seven-game homestand. San Jose will face the Colorado Avalanche on Monday, March 1 next.
